Description
Based on Chaim Potok's novel, in this drama, artist Asher Lev tells his story in a series of flashbacks. A Ladover Hasidic Jew born with a great artistic talent, his sect of Judaism does not believe that art is a worthwhile pursuit. When he begins to draw nudes and pictures of the Crucifixion, Asher's father declares Asher's work demonic; his mother is more forgiving of his talent, although she doesn't understand it. The Rebbe of their sect learns of Asher's gift, and allows him to work with a Jewish master painter, and he becomes a successful artist, continuing to debate with his parents about the nature and value of his work. This is a heartbreaking and compelling drama, questioning what it means to live one's life as an artist. Thursdays, January 30, February 6 & 13, 2:00 pm & 7:30 pm Saturdays, February 1, 8, 15, 7:30pm Sundays, February 2, 9, 16, 2:00pm VIP Reserved Seats: $40; General admission: $30, Gold Members: $25, Platinum Members: Free
